History
Drupal was launched in 2001, it was first created as a message board in order for the founders “Dries Buytaert and Hans Snijder” to communicate between dorms with other alumni. After leaving college they launched the site Drop.org as a means to stay in touch, it was meant to be called “Dorp” meaning village in dutch.
Requirements
Web server : Apache, Nginx, Microsoft IIS or any other web server with proper PHP support
Database :
MySQL 5.0.15/MariaDB 5.1.440/Percona Server 5.1.70 or higher
SQLite 3.3.7 or higher
PHP : HP 5.6 or higher
Hosted or Selfhosted
Drupal can be self hosted or third party hosted. Some hosting providers are Acquia, Sevaa Group, and Hostinger.
Cost
Drupal is a free to use software, the cost will be dependent on what hosting service you use and if you were to have a web developer make a site for you.
User Base
In 2022 Drupal had a user base of over 1.39 million and still continues to grow, with over 124,000 users actively contributing to its success.
